Threads, the microblogging platform from Instagram, is expanding its keyword search feature to all users. Instagram Head Adam Mosseri confirmed the expansion to all Threads users in all languages, after initially testing the feature in select English-speaking countries and then rolling it out to more regions. The feature is separate from the tags feature currently being tested in Australia, which is aimed at finding posts related to specific interests or themes, similar to X’s hashtag feature.
Mosseri mentioned that the keyword search feature will see further improvements in the near future, teasing potential new features without sharing specific details. However, when asked about support for viewing search results in chronological order, Mosseri expressed concerns about potential safety loopholes.
This development is expected to pave the way for Threads to introduce support for trending topics, similar to a feature available on the platform’s rival X. Additionally, the addition of post counts while adding interactive tags to posts hints at potential support for trending topics in the future.
In a related update, Threads recently enabled users to delete profiles without deleting the linked Instagram account, a functionality previously unavailable since its launch in July. Prior to this update, users could only temporarily disable their Threads profile, as it was closely tied to their original Instagram account.
